The SCSA and SEBWA
Sunshine Grammar School (SGS)
Sunshine Grammar School (SGS) owned by Sunshine Education Group (SEG) is a pioneer in English medium education in Bangladesh and was the first English medium school in Chattogram. SGS’s aim is to provide a stimulating and challenging learning environment that enables students to develop a strong capacity for learning and the operating skills required to excel in a highly competitive and rapidly changing world. SGS has been providing an innovative and positive approach to the development of their student’s future since 1985 and has a proud academic history. Its students receive the best academic results in Bangladesh and the staff are recognised nationally and internationally for their teaching quality. SGS strives to provide excellent facilities and resources to both students and staff for academic and personal development, including the delivery of Western Australian curriculum programs developed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA). The SCSA has a rich tradition of providing world-class curriculum programs and professional learning pathways and support for teachers and school leaders.
Sunshine Education Bangladesh WACE Australia (SEBWA)
The next stage in SGS’s journey providing a world-class curriculum is making it accessible to more students and schools across Bangladesh. Following extensive research and discussions, including a visit by a Bangladesh delegation to Perth, Western Australia to gain a deeper insight into the Western Australian education system and a ministerial mission from Western Australia to Bangladesh, SGS and the SCSA have partnered to expand the delivery of the Western Australian curriculum to a network of schools located in Bangladesh under Sunshine Education Bangladesh WACE Australia (SEBWA). SEBWA is supported by the Chattogram and Dhaka Boards of Study, the Government of Western Australia and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade).
School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA)
The SCSA is the Western Australian Government certification authority responsible for the Western Australian curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 12. Reporting directly to the Western Australian Ministers for Education and Training, International Education and Early Childhood Studies, the SCSA is administered by a board of educators with experience in curriculum and assessment, education measurement, school leadership and policy. Since 1987, the SCSA has been licensing international schools to deliver its curriculum programs internationally. Through the SCSA’s curriculum and support provided to international schools, students are able to access a range of post-school study and work options locally and internationally. The Western Australian curriculum has proven to be a strong foundation for students successfully transitioning to higher education studies. Students studying the Western Australian curriculum receive the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) when they meet the specified requirements in their senior secondary schooling. International universities, tertiary institutions, industry and training providers recognise the WACE to be equivalent to their local secondary school certificate for admission purposes due to SCSA’s:
- effective approach to curriculum design and certification standards, including demonstration of a minimum level of literacy and numeracy, a minimum level of academic achievement and breadth and depth in enrolment
- rigorous assessment standards and moderation procedures that are informed by the latest national and international research
- provision of ATAR courses that allow multiple opportunities for students to acquire and develop highly transferrable skills, including personal and social capabilities, intercultural understandings and critical and creative thinking
- provision of senior secondary English learning area courses, including English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D), English and Literature, which develop academic English skills for learners with different abilities to meet university English proficiency requirements internationally.
SEBWA aims to facilitate an introduction between interested schools and the SCSA. It will support schools with the licensing application process and assist SCSA approved schools with the implementation of the Western Australian curriculum.
